WEBCON TAG 2026: 6 Key Takeaways from AI, Automation and Digital Transformation

4 min read

From customer success stories and technical deep dives to community meetups, one message echoed throughout WEBCON TAG 2026: digital transformation isn't about individual tools.
It's about using automation, AI and digitalization to solve real business challenges through scalable processes, strong governance and continuous improvement.

If you couldn't join us or want to revisit the biggest insights, here are the six key takeaways from WEBCON TAG 2026.

Artificial intelligence was one of the defining topics of this year's event. But instead of discussing AI as another standalone technology, the focus was on a much more practical question:

How can AI improve everyday business processes?

The answer wasn't theoretical.

Organizations are already using AI to classify requests, extract information from documents, summarize content, generate responses and support employees directly inside their workflows. Rather than replacing people, AI becomes another participant in the process, helping users make faster and better-informed decisions.

At the same time, enterprise AI requires more than powerful models. Flexibility, governance and the ability to choose the right model for each business scenario are becoming equally important. That was one of the central messages throughout the AI sessions.

Building a few applications is easy. Building dozens or even hundreds that remain maintainable over the years is the real challenge.

Josef Rädlinger, a construction and infrastructure company, demonstrated that scalable Low-Code environments aren't built by creating more applications, but by creating them consistently. Shared naming conventions, reusable components, common UI patterns and documented development standards allow organizations to scale without sacrificing quality or increasing maintenance effort.

The same principle appeared in several customer presentations: Governance doesn't slow innovation down. It enables it.

Another recurring theme was the relationship between ERP systems and business process automation. Rather than continuously extending ERP systems with custom developments, organizations are increasingly using WEBCON as the process layer around their existing landscape.

This approach allows business departments to digitize and improve processes much faster while ERP systems continue handling their core responsibilities. The result is greater flexibility, better data quality and significantly shorter implementation cycles without adding unnecessary ERP complexity.

Technology alone doesn't transform organizations. Several sessions demonstrated that the biggest successes come from close collaboration between business departments and IT.

Business users contribute process expertise. IT provides governance, architecture and long-term stability.

Customer examples showed how low-code platforms enable departments to actively participate in digitalization while maintaining enterprise-wide standards, transparency and control. That balance between agility and governance emerged as one of the strongest themes of WEBCON TAG 2026.

One of the most valuable aspects of WEBCON TAG remains hearing directly from organizations that have already transformed their business processes:

As the largest energy provider in the Austrian state of Tyrol, TIWAG operates in a highly regulated critical infrastructure environment. The company explained how a clear division of responsibilities between internal experts and implementation partners made it possible to migrate business-critical applications. The result was greater security, flexibility and long-term independence.

As one of Germany's leading confectionery manufacturers, Piasten showed that digital transformation started by building on what already worked. Instead of heavily customizing SAP, the company used WEBCON to increase production transparency, improve data quality and give business users a more active role in shaping digital processes.

As a software engineering and IT solutions provider, MicroNova shared perhaps the most important lesson of the event after using WEBCON for over 7 years and building 100+ business processes

Processes are never finished.

Digital transformation isn't a one-time implementation. It's a continuous journey of optimization that evolves together with the business.

Beyond the main stage, the Community Meetups provided practical knowledge that attendees could apply immediately.

Sessions covered topics ranging from design standards and governance to SDK development, User Defined APIs, migration strategies and data import best practices.

Together, they reinforced one simple idea:

Successful digital transformation isn't only about the platform. It's also about sharing experience, learning from others and building on proven best practices.
